Word of the Week

My word of the week is extradite, I came across this word in a headline I saw on the CNN Web site. Extradite sort of sounds like expedite. I wanted to know what the difference was between the words. According to Merriam-Webster's Dictionary, extradite comes from the word extradition which means the surrender of an alleged criminal usually under the provisions of a treaty or statute by one authority (as a state) to another having jurisdiction to try the charge. Extradition is French, from ex- + Latin tradition-, traditio act of handing over.
